GIH = games in hand on the second wild-card team. Ranked on points, then fewer games played, then regulation wins, then goal difference. The league also uses head-to-head, which this table applies only where the source carries it.

How the table works

Points

  • 2 points for a win, however it comes — regulation, overtime or shootout.
  • 1 point for losing in overtime or a shootout (the column marked OTL).
  • 0 points for a regulation loss.
  • A game is never a tie: overtime and then a shootout decide it.

Who makes the playoffs

  • The top three in each division qualify — six per conference.
  • The next two best records in each conference get the wild cards.
  • Sixteen teams in total; the bracket is built within each conference.

Tie-breaks, in order

  1. Fewer games played (i.e. the better points percentage)
  2. Regulation wins (RW)
  3. Regulation plus overtime wins (ROW)
  4. Total wins
  5. Head-to-head points
  6. Goal differential
  7. Goals for

Verified against published summaries of the league's procedure, September 2026. Where our own tables simplify this — head-to-head is applied to two-team ties only — the table says so.

Reading the columns

OTL
Overtime or shootout losses — worth one point
P%
Points won as a share of points available
RW
Regulation wins — the first real tie-break
ROW
Regulation + overtime wins (shootout wins excluded)
DIFF
Goals for minus goals against
