Junior & Minor-Pro Hockey

The road to the pros runs through these leagues: Canadian major junior, the US junior tiers, and the North American minor leagues that sit directly under the NHL. Overseas pro leagues are here too.

Canadian major junior (CHL)

Three leagues — the OHL, the WHL and the QMJHL — for players aged 16 to 20, playing for the Memorial Cup each spring.

US juniors

The USHL is the top US junior league and a main feeder of college hockey; the NAHL sits a tier below.

North American minor pros

The AHL is the NHL's primary development league and the ECHL sits beneath it; most NHL clubs have an affiliate in each.

Overseas pro leagues

Sweden's SHL, Finland's Liiga, the Swiss National League, the KHL and more.
