Capitals at Islanders: Lines, Notes, & How to Watch
1+ hour, 19+ min ago (414+ words) The Washington Capitals finish the month of November on the road. They visit the New York Islanders at UBS Arena on Sunday afternoon. The puck drops at 1:00 p.m. ET. Sunday's matchup is the first of a four-game, weeklong road trip for the Capitals. It's also the third of four meetings with the Islanders, with the season series concluding on Feb. 2 in Washington. The Capitals and Islanders previously split a pair of October meetings, with both victories coming on the road. Right now, the Capitals are the hottest they've been all season, going 6-1-1 in their last eight games. They are also three games out of first place AND last place in a very tight Metropolitan Division. The Capitals just capped off a four-game homestand with a 4-2 comeback win over Toronto on Friday night. Trailing 2-0 in the second period, the Capitals went on…...
Ottawa Charge coach Carla MacLeod announces breast cancer diagnosis
9+ hour, 31+ min ago (308+ words) Ottawa Charge coach Carla MacLeod announced Sunday that she has been diagnosed with breast cancer and plans "to be behind the bench as much as possible" during her treatment. "Hearing those words was incredibly difficult, but I want everyone to know that I'm going to be okay," MacLeod said in a statement. "I'm incredibly fortunate to have an exceptional medical team guiding me, and together we've built a treatment plan that gives me tremendous confidence in the road ahead." MacLeod has coached the Charge since the PWHL's inaugural season and led the team to the Finals in 2024-25. She's also the head coach of the Czech women's national team, which qualified for the 2026 Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics. As a player, the 43-year-old MacLeod won gold medals in 2006 and 2010 with the Canadian women's national team. MacLeod will miss Tuesday's game against Minnesota as…...

Logan Cooley Exits With Left Knee Injury, Utah Mammoth Shut Out By St. Louis Blues
11+ hour, 33+ min ago (591+ words) Logan Cooley was skating down the ice, playing his typical game before he suffered his injury. The Mammoth were down 1-0 and in desperate need of offense. With the puck in his possession, Cooley was looking to make a play, as he had done for the Mammoth all year. But with the Blues" Alexey Toropchenko suddenly blocking his path, Cooley was not going to get an easy route to the net. It was no surprise when Cooley sent the puck off the boards into the St. Louis defensive zone. Getting it past Toropchenko wouldn"t have been easy, so it was a good reed to send the puck in and allow Utah to be onside. Cooley was playing smart even with pressure mounting on the Mammoth to make something happen offensively. Unfortunately, there was nothing he could have done to prevent…...
Takeaways: Penguins' 7-2 Loss To Leafs Calls For Some Changes
12+ hour, 22+ min ago (1461+ words) Heading into Saturday's matchup against the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Pittsburgh Penguins had won two consecutive games and appeared to be crawling out of the November slump they found themselves in. Unfortunately, all of that quickly went down the drain. The Penguins fell to the Leafs, 7-2, to secure their eighth loss in the last 11 games to Toronto. Although the score suggests otherwise, the Penguins actually didn't play a terrible game in terms of generating chances and creating offensive opportunity. Unfortunately, their goaltending and their defense completely let them down in this one. Penguins' goaltender Arturs Silovs was pulled after allowing four goals on nine Toronto shots, with the final dagger being Dakota Joshua's second-period goal just two and a half minutes after Bobby McMann put the Leafs up, 3-1. After Silovs was pulled in favor of Tristan Jarry during the second…...

12+ hour, 22+ min ago (784+ words) Nov. 29GRAND FORKS Will Zellers scored 44 goals in the United States Hockey League, 11 more than anyone else. He won the Player of the Year honor and was a big part of UND's highly touted recruiting class. But even he was curious how he would transition to the college game. "It's not easy coming into college hockey, especially the NCHC," he said. "I think it's the hardest college hockey league in the world. . . It was kind of questioning a little bit to see if I could play at this level." Zellers capped a torrid November by scoring a power-play, overtime winner to give UND a 2-1 victory over Bemidji State in Ralph Engelstad Arena on Saturday night. The goal completed a two-game sweep for UND, which is now 10-4 through two months of the Dane Jackson era. UND freshman Cole Reschny drew a holding…...
